Product Review: Pur Mineralclear Water Filtration System

If I have never told you how picky my husband is, then please let me share. He will not drink tap water and he has a very tough time eating at restaurants. The restaurant thing stems from working in the industry and having to go through all the health code training. Now when we eat at a restaurant he will notice every little thing. And if you allow him to...he will share his findings and eventually you will beg to find another restaurant. But once you know how employees in those places behave and acknowledge the risks of eating out in public dining establishments, then you become much more aware, not only for yourself, but for your family. It makes it harder to close your eyes when you see minor health code infractions - especially if they are going to affect you. And the tap water issue is another instance. He absolutely refuses to drink unfiltered tap water. He will suck down sugary beverage after sugary beverage, even if it is bad for his diabetes, but he refuses to touch unfiltered tap water. This began in science class and has stuck with him ever since. Regardless, I love him and his critical view of the world - it makes him who he is.

For months now, we have been buying bottled water and been feeling guilty over all the bottles we were putting into the landfills. It just wasn’t right. We kept saying how we were going to investigate the different water filtration options out there but we never did. Life gets busy and sometimes good intentions fall to the wayside of our busy schedules. We eventually decided that as much as we say we are going to investigate, the only real proof is in testing them out for ourselves. Last night, my hubby and I decided to make a small investment for our health and for the earth. We purchased a Pur Mineralclear Water Filter at Walmart for $34.78.

There were several different brands and styles we could have chosen. We looked at a ton of different pitchers, packets you add to your water, and modules that attached to your sink - either directly to the faucet or under the counter. We were looking for a system that could meet all of our needs affordably. We needed an affordable system that not only filtered the best but was also portable. The Pur Mineralclear Water Filter meets those needs.

Hubby and I do not own our home - we rent. Having a system that is portable is a major plus. The Pur Mineralclear Water Filter is very portable. It comes with 4 different adaptors for your faucet to allow for all the different styles of faucets and the unit just snaps right on. Another reason portability is important is due to our dishwasher - we have a portable dishwasher that hooks up directly to the faucet. The Pur Mineralclear Water Filter allows me to easily remove it so that I can hook up my dishwasher, then replace it when I am done. Portability was critical in our decision - it was the only reason we looked at the pitchers first.

Another reason we chose the Pur Mineralclear Filter was because it has a 3-stage filtering process - it filters the water first through a layer to remove sediment, then through an activated carbon microfilter to reduce contaminants and microbial cysts, then it filters the water over natural minerals to enhance the flavor of your water.

Filters in this system are supposed to last about 3 months or 100 gallons per filter where as the other pitcher filter systems lasted only 2 months or 40 gallons per filter. The replacement filters cost a little over $33 for 3 which is about $11 per filter. The cost of this system per gallon is actually less than for the pitcher system.

In addition to the filter, we purchased a 2.5 gallon container to store fresh filtered water in our fridge.  We are saving what bottles we have left for road trips and we love the taste of our tap water now. My husband still wants to buy a microscope, so he can physically see the difference that the Pur Mineralclear Filtration System is making on our water. He is still THAT concerned. But over all, we love our new Pur Mineralclear System and we fully recommend it to anyone looking for a water filtration system that is not only affordable but also portable.

  1. I have one of these and love it! We've used it for years. If you have a membership to BJ's (or another bulk store) check there for replacement filters. We usually only end up having to buy them maybe once a year.
