Eating at Bleu

Today was my hubby's birthday so we made tonight our date night, dinner and a movie... or rather the movie first then dinner. We watched The Wolfman at Hollywood Theaters and then went downtown to Bleu Restaurant and Wine Bar. My friend, Bee, suggested it as a great place to eat and since we rarely eat out anymore, we decided to test the downtown waters for our special date night. Bleu is an upscale dining experience with wonderful service and first rate food.

Since it was my husband's birthday he received a complimentary entree - A beef fillet with roasted potatoes and kale. Being the wonderful husband that he is, he slipped me a piece of the beef fillet and it was totally amazing - it had a smokey, charbroiled flavor and was so tender you could cut it with a fork. The kale was also perfectly cooked, tender and quite flavorful.  I chose Pappardelle Pasta with Chorizo for my entree, which is their most famous dish. It includes hand made pasta with roasted red peppers, caramelized onions, and a wine sauce. We also decided to try an appetizer. We ordered Samosas which are deep fried dumplings filled with a variety of veggies and served with a fruity salsa dip made from mangoes. They brought out 3 dumplings and a small cup of dip that was both sweet and spicy. It complimented the dumplings nicely. I believe the dumplings were made with paper thin phyllo dough, though I am not sure.

I also want to mention that Bleu's beef is grown locally from B&G Farms - so it is all natural - no hormones - which makes the food here not only extra delicious but that much more better for you. As for the wines, we do not drink so we did not partake in the wide array of wines they have. You should definitely check out their website to get a good feel of all they have to offer.

The booth we sat in had very high backs which helped make our dining experience feel a bit more private and secluded. The table was made from marble - black with flecks of browns and grays. The entire mood was very romantic with very soft lighting. A perfect spot for a romantic dinner for two. The music was different - something I wouldn't normally listen to - maybe techno or eclectic style - not quite sure how to explain it as I have never experienced it before. It wasn't unpleasant in the least - it actually gave way to the overall ambiance of the place. The menu has enough to satisfy everyone without being to cluttered.  From pork to scallops with vegetarian dishes your sure to find something to enjoy. If you ever get to Missouri be sure to stop in and try this decadent restaurant located just off 8th street next to the Tiger Hotel. It's certainly worth it!
